SATURDAY 18TH OCTOBER-OLD QUEEN’S HEAD-OXJAM ISLINGTON

Lovely to be part of this mammoth event, literally 100 bands in 10 venues. It is also nice to do a full 30 minute set. Mel from Mel and the boys came with me after we had been to a meet-up for producers which was really interesting and diverse.

MONDAY 13TH OCTOBER-TIGERSONIC-HOLLOWAY

One of my favourite meet-ups at Tigersonic studios in Holloway. I sang Bursting out of a Bubble from my new album of the same title. I am still working on the best way to play this live.

WEDNESDAY 8TH OCTOBER-FEARLESS FEMALES AT BOHEMIA-HACKNEY

A great monthly night with lots of varying music and spoken word. This was their 2nd birthday and I have only missed a handful of nights. I got to sing 3 songs which were well received.

SATURDAY 4TH OCTOBER-PATRICK’S DALSTON

Always a lovely night, mostly poetry but great company and food.

TUESDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER-ZEBRANO-SOHO

This was a follow on from a meet up of industry experts from Be On The Scene. A great mixture of musicians and a friendly bar. Sebastian Blake is really talented.

SATURDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER-ROSIE SHY ALBUM LAUNCH-WOOD GREEN

This night exceeded all my expectations. There was a big crowd and a really beautiful atmosphere. Rick Hayter, Neil Huckstep, Farhan Mahhan, Tasha Daniels and Kim’s band played. I was fortunate enough to have the Angel of Kaos choir join me on my last song. We also had a funny moment when my dad joined me on stage so we could swap our newly released albums, bazaar.

FRIDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER-PANDORA’S DIARY-NEW SOUTHGATE

Always a pleasure to play at one of Pandora’s diaries living room concerts as she often gets artists from all over the world which I wouldn’t know about otherwise. Joel Havea was the featured artist tonight and he didn’t disappoint with some great rhythms and songs. There was a bassist on hand to join me which really added to the songs.

TUESADY 23RD SEPTEMBER- QUEEN’S HEAD- BRIXTON

Carl Chamberlain is simply a legend amongst promotions. I love his night in Brixton. He always gives the artists respect and time and is very welcoming. Met a random DJ Panos Smith who puts on a monthly night at the Queen’s head.

SATURDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER- THE VICTORIA-HIGHGATE

Eran has such a lovely voice and beautiful nature to go with it. There was a mixed bunch including a great singer working a loop station.

SUNDAY 27TH JULY -WOMAD FESTIVAL

What a great festival. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I totally embraced the festival attending several workshops including xylophone making, beat boxing and many more. I performed on Molly’s bar stage on the Sunday evening and got a great reception. I saw so many diverse bands and acts but Sinead O’Connor, standing in after the sad death of Bobby Womack gave a great set.

WEDNESDAY 16TH JULY-FEARLESS FEMALES AT BOHEMIA-HACKNEY

I sang my fairly new song, It’s Complicated, which went well. My childhood friend Eloise Marshall, who now lives in Amsterdam came too and did a great poem about my boots that she disappeared with 30 years ago, ending the poem with handing me the boots.

FRIDAY 4TH JULY – HOLY CROSS CENTRE TRUST-KINGS CROSS

I love this night. Played with my songwriting group that I teach once a week for Upbeat.

SATURDAY 21ST JUNE- AP AND BEYOND FETIVAL

Lovely local festival in the park that I grew up in. lots of live music, including Pandora’s Diary. Apart from playing on the Sunday I ran The Creative Clinic on the Saturday, helping people kick start their creativity.

WEDNESDAY 11TH JUNE-FEARLESS FEMALES AT BOHEMIA-HACKNEY

Yes second gig of the night. As usual a mixed bunch and I played piano for a change, singing my jazzy song, ‘Moving On.’

WEDNESDAY 11TH JUNE-THE WHITE LION-STREATHAM

A really welcoming bunch. This was a charity gig for Spires who do great work with homeless and venerable people. I didn’t stay long as I wanted to get to Fearless females in Hackney.

SATURDAY 7TH JUNE-PATRICK’S=DALSTON

A smaller crowd this time. Jo Alexander did a poem about suffering from asthma which was moving.

SATURDAY 31ST MAY-BURDALL’S YARD-BATH

This was a reunion of Bath Spa Masters students past and present. An open mic with a range of talent. Tami stole the night with her haunting song on Ukulele which silenced the room. Lovely to see ex students and I dared to get pretty drunk.

SUNDAY 25TH MAY 2014-THE FIDLER’S ELBOW-CAMDEN

There was an event in the afternoon here with about 6 drunks left over. Though they were a little annoying they meant no harm. Arriff AB played as well as lots of people who proceeded to all use the same guitar.

SATURDAY 24TH MAY- THE VICTORIA-HIGHGATE

This was a really enjoyable night put on by Eran. I met my friend Anthony who played some great songs and it was good to see Anwar perform too. The sound was good and a really nice atmosphere.

WEDNESDAY 21ST MAY 2014-THE PERFORMER’S CORNER AT THE RECORD CLUB-CAMDEN

A very long and interesting night. Non-stop performers and a brief talk from Stephen Budd which was a little helpful. The atmosphere was buzzing with poets, musicians, rap artists and actors. Really different from most of the music nights that I play at.

THURSDAY 15TH MAY-STEPPING STONES STUDIOS-MAIDSTONE, KENT

This is a fantastic cafe run by Emma Christine Whittall in Maidstone. As well as a cafe they put on music and art events. I was videoed by Matthew Bolton who comes highly recommended. I will return!

FRIDAY 9TH MAY-WATFORD FOLK CLUB-WATFORD

My actual first trip to a folk club. We sat in a circle and went round the group playing songs. A lot of people obviously knew each other but I was made to feel very welcome by Julian Mount and the group. Before I knew it I was joining in traditional English Folk songs!

FRIDAY 2ND MAY-CONCERT ARTISTES ASSOCIATION-COVENT GARDEN

This venue is amazing. It just feels old and you can feel the history of all the music played there. A mixed bunch of talent, some better than others but very friendly.

SATURDAY 19TH APRIL- FOCALLOCAL CARAVANSERAI-CANNING TOWN

This was an outdoor event with a real community atmosphere. I was feeling cold and was about to go home when I met Viviene Kent, a stunning and amazingly dynamic women. When I told her I was going home to write a new song called ‘It’s Complicated’ she demanded I stay as that summed her life up. We jammed for a bit around the theme and had a laugh. She is so lovely. Later in the evening they got a camp fire going so I decided to use the power of movement (no mics) to entertain, singing while walking round the fire.

THURSDAY 17T H APRIL–BOOGALOO-HIGHGATE

I love this venue and Zac is such a welcoming host, always. Malin Anderson, from Sweden opened the night, quite folky. Tom Livingstone did a great cover of ‘The way you make me feel’ by Michael Jackson. George Frakes was on towards the end, amazing!

FRIDAY 11TH APRIL – HOLY CROSS CENTRE TRUST-KINGS CROSS

I love this three monthly open mic run by Upbeat, a charity supporting people recovering from mental health problems. I am now assisting Chris Leeds in the songwriting group and it has been great meeting Curliss, Anita, Eric and Karen. The belling dancing tonight and the Iraq singing were my favourite acts.

WEDNESDAY 9TH APRIL-FEARLESS FEMALES AT BOHEMIA-HACKNEY

Another great night run by the collective, Fearless Females. Men are welcome to perform too, as long as they have a woman performing with them. The night is designed to encourage females who haven’t performed before or who lack confidence.

WEDNESDAY 2ND APRIL -THE VERGE-BETHNAL GREEN

This was a poetry night strictly speaking but Bex and Jah welcomed me. Cathy Power’s did a poem about injustice which made everyone listen.

TUESDAY 18TH MARCH-HYSTERIA BAR-DALSTON

Karmie Karmz gave a brilliant performance with her honest poetry touching on isolation and depression. Errol McGlashan is an enthusiastic host. The poets are just wonderfully refreshing after spending so much time with songwriters.

THURSDAY 6TH MARCH 2014-MASCARA BAR-STOKE NEWINGTON

The Stokey Bard puts this night on. He is a great poet. I wasn’t too impressed by the naked poet as I felt I was flashed at, but he thought he was cool, not. Met a really interesting poet who told me he was autistic which gave his work an interesting perspective.

My favourite night of the month and a special one too as I played piano with Luzia Troebinger on sax. I sang, ‘Moving On.’ A jazzy number. As usual a wonderful atmosphere with a great range of talent.

THURSDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2013-THE OLD TOWN HALL-HEMEL HAMSTEAD

Yasmine and I ventured out of London on another adventure and it was well worth it. The venue had a lovely community spirit to it and Daria Kulesh was a very welcoming host. She opened the night with “I want attention.” Great performance and she has a quirky style. I performed 2 songs and then relaxed to watch the other acts which included Neil Stanton singing a lovely song “Silver and Tin” on Ukulele. Julian Mount provided some comedy songs, including “The Taxman” and Helen Chinn sang an acapella folk song followed by a couple of originals. Nick Stephenson did a great cover of Tom Waits “Clap Hands”

WEDNESDAY 25th SEPTEMBER -SING FOR YOU SUPPER AT HOUSE OF WOLFE-ISLINGTON

Great night out with Yasime Latkowski. Another night put on by the legend that is Carl Chamberlain. He rocked some fantastic dance moves between the acts. I opened the night with Yasmine following me. Melanie gave us some jazz standards, nice voice. Chatted to Ben Kelly and Dan Cook who both did great sets with a similar quirky style. They play in Cook and the case. Their double EP Quentin Abbey is out now. Fantastic vocals from Dan. Ben’s set was understated and I really enjoyed his songs played on a nice sounding guild. Pete the pest took me by surprise, a warm up song on guitar followed by two energy driven tracks using a loop station. Unique Technique played with a CD backing.

 

 

SATURDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER-FLAMMING JUNE’S TROUBADOURS AT FOLKSTOCK-HERTFORDSHIRE

I saw Flaming June earlier in the year at Fearless Females and she rocked. A really nice lady. I met a random Russian women called Daria who not on understood the fraze, “bless your cotton socks” but was even able to tell me the origin! She has invited me to play at a night she is putting on in Hemel Hamstead so I am looking forward to that as I love going to new venues out of London. I saw Tom Moon play who has a lovely tone to his voice and lots more folk music.

WEDNESDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER-PANDORASDIARY ON K2K RADIO-QUEEN’S PARK

How exciting was today, my first live radio performance and brief interview. Pandorasdiary was a delightful host and I really enjoyed Beth Swain’s set. I got to play 2 of my favourite artists, Jane Siberry and Beth Prior too.

FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER-THE HORNBEAM CAFÉ-WALTHAMSTOW

Lovely welcoming host in Andy the mirror. It was a mixture of poetry and music with one poet getting almost angry with a heckler and even blaming the heckler for his act not going well. Another poet or comic (couldn’t work out which) was getting very smutty which was making some of the women uncomfortable and one spoke up! Good on her. Because of the venue there were a couple of great under 18s, both had lovely voices but I didn’t get their names. One did a great version of Youth by Daughter.

TUESDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER-THE STEP-BOUNDS GREEN

Went with my lovely talented friend Yasmine Latkowski. Richard made us welcome and even introduced each act with a 20 second improvised song.

SUNDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER-LONDON SONGWRITERS-GOODGE STREET

I played Apathy today and also did some co-writing. Which turned out surprisingly well. Met Sonic Troubadour too. Murray Webster is a great host.

SUNDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER-PIANO STAGE-END OF THE ROAD FESTIVAL-DORSET

Great festival weekend. Saw David Byrne and St.Vincent which was fantastic with an eight piece brass section. Ed Harcourt is another fantastic songwriter and performer. I played in a room in the woods which was great and good a good response from the crowd. Helen Jane MacLaurin played too but I missed her.

THURSDAY 22ND AUGUST-THE DISSENTING ACADEMY-NEWINGTON GREEN

Eran Karniel hosts this weekly night. There was me, him and Klara Lunden. Bit of a talking pub and not many people but the three of us had a lovely night. Love Eran’s new single, ‘Come to me.’

WEDNESDAY 21ST AUGUST – VOICES AT BOOGALOO-HIGHGATE

Zachery Stephenson, the host, opened the night with “Can’t do it without you.” In total there were 15 acts, each different from each other. Claudia and Nate played again from Saturday. Both splendid and accomplished performers. Claudia’s voice is beautiful. Nate Maingard sounds a little like Athelete. His songs are authentic and from the heart. His last song “Let love win” was great.

SATURDAY 17TH AUGUST- SONGS OF LOVE & HATE-THE TORRIANO-KENTISH TOWN

Nice cool venue in the basement with sofas. Zac the host was welcoming and he kicked the night off with 2 original songs. My favourites tonight were Nate Maingard and Claudia Heidegger but I have to also mention the great Kitty Junkbrother who has a great jazz blues voice singing great original songs with fine paino playing to accompany her. Other acts included were Cornelis Gerard and I am the Id.

WEDNESDAY 14TH AUGUST-THE SALISBURY ARMS-WINCHMORE HILL

Another new venue to visit and really nice hosts blab la and Emily. They started the night with a song which was good. They are parts of a covers band called Dobie and the fundamentals. Freya Riddings played some nice songs. Also playing were my music friends Hazel Jane MacLaurin and Yasmine Latkowski. Both gifted piano players, great song writers with beautiful singing voices, Wolfe Hogan has to be heard, playing violin and singing with great skill and a lovely tone to his voice.

MONDAY 12TH AUGUST- TIGERSONIC STUDIO-CALEDONIAN ROAD

This is a monthly meet up at Tigersonic Studios run by the fabulous Felix. There is usually a small gig after and I stepped in at the last minute to sing 1 song on piano. Yasmine Latkowski had a string quartet playing with her that sounded beautiful, violin, viola and cello.

So tonight I met the legend that is Carl Chamberlain. Such a wonderful host and genuinely nice guy. I mixture of poetry and music but mostly music. Had some nice supper pizza.

3RD/SUNDAY4TH AUGUST-THE SMALL FESTIVAL-KENT

My first visit to this really cool small festival. I only knew 2 people there but was made so welcome and I met some lovely people over the 3 days including, Mary, Joy, Audrey, Dan,

Saturday night was in the barn which had a really nice vibe and Sunday night I got my own trumpet player which was awesome. Over the weekend I went to a death café, had a reflexology treatment, did French dancing and took part in music and silence. We listened to 6 very different pieces of music which a few minutes silence in between each to reflect. I also took part in a quiz and did a bit of juggling.

A hot night so took place outside on the veranda which was lovely.

Wow what a great night. Sarah’s living room gigs are legendary and she had a fantastic line up tonight. The featured act were French for Rabbits all the way from New Zealand. Resonance also played solo. Love her rhythms. My name was picked to open the show and Pete Bennett followed me.

2nd time at this quarterly event which again was one of the most welcoming nights full of diversity including wonderful belly dancing.

Jo and I decided we were Thelma and Louise which added a bit of excitement to the drive down to Hastings. I thought I was in a Vietnamese bar and that Russian roulette would start any moment. Brian a lovely host. Met the lovely Housie later.

Fantastic night with a showcase by the great John Hegley. Also came across The antipoet who are a great duo worth checking out. Very crowded and the place was buzzing.

1970’s night so I did my first cover, I will survive, with my acoustic take. Came across Jude Cowan Montague and Kath Tait. Both worth checking out and really enjoyed chatting to them.

SUNDAY 23RD JUNE- AP &BEYOND ART AND MUSIC FESTIVAL-DURNSFORD PARK

Lovely to play in the park that I grew up in. It was a bit windy and my hair was annoying me but an enjoyable gig with quite a few friends there and my daughter. Felt good and afterward went to see Artist Lucky Rutland at open studios and met a couple of really cool musicians.

Fantastic night with Pandorasdiary, Mandy Woods, Lisa Schumann, Yasmine Latkowski and some cool guys from Finsbury Park. It was a lovely atmosphere and Everyone’s Climbing Tree runs fantastic drum workshops plus more.

First time for Fearless Females at new venue and it is so cool. Faye Patton, amazing jazz singer showcased along with Lara Fellfrom-Sky, an honest and great poet.

MONDAY 6TH MAY –SUPPORTING JANE SIBERRY- THE PHEASANTRY-CHELSEA

Well I’ve gone to Heaven. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a massive Jane Siberry fan so to support her was the most amazing experience. Songs went well. We got on nicely and had a lovely chat driving home. A night I will never forget.

First time to this event and it had a lovely atmosphere. It is all acoustic so I had the wrong guitar but my songs were well received. Met a lovely artist Annalou who drew me while I was singing and I have met her since.

WEDNESDAY 1ST MAY- FEARLESS FEMALES –HORATIO-HOLLOWAY

Gilly Spenser and Mandy Woods showcased. Gilly is a great piano player but also played one of her electronic tracks. A very talented producer. Mandy Woods is a great songwriter and performer singing great country and folk tunes along with her harmonica.

MONDAY 22ND APRIL-DEAD OR ALIVE PRESENTS AT RATTLESNAKE-ANGEL

Lovely night with daughter and some friends, nice venue.

SATURDAY 20TH APRIL-PANDORASDIARY LIVING ROOM CONCERT AT FRANCESCA HOUSE-WEST HAMSTEAD

Loads of talented acts at this gig including Radhika Rathinasabapathy, a great songwriter and rhythm guitarist.

FRIDAY 19TH APRIL – HOLY CROSS CENTRE TRUST-KINGS CROSS

Wow what a night. An Elvis impersonator, Scottish dancing, Arabic singing to name but a few. I was on my own but made to feel so welcome. We got a meal as well and it was a totally unexpected great night.

TUESDAY 16TH APRIL-THE GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY-HORNSEY

Eran Karniel hosted this night. He is very talented and has an amazing voice. Yasmine and I had a funny night but what’s new. Love hearing Yasmine playing, she has great voice and writes interesting songs.

SUNDAY 14TH APRIL-HATCHET INN-BRISTOL

Great charity event with lots of talented acts including host Mark Venus and Sumita Majumdar. First time I had to ask someone to stop talking. A musician who was on before me who I had politely listened to even though he was below average. He was rudely talking right in front of me. If he hadn’t been a musician I probably wouldn’t have said anything but it felt really good to do so, twat!

SUNDAY 7TH APRIL-0’NEILLS-MUSWELL HILL

Lovely venue in old church but the acoustics were a bit weird. Great host but too much talking.

SATURDAY 6TH APRIL-POETRY AND MUSIC-PATRICKS-DALSTON

Always a lovely night with Patrick and Jo. Lots of great characters.

WEDNESDAY 3RD APRIL- FEARLESS FEMALES –HORATIO-HOLLOWAY

Annee Patrice from Global Island Groove showcased with her band. She has a great voice and some good songs. As usual the Fearless Females night is the best.

SUNDAY 31ST MARCH-15 MINUTE CLUB AT ALL STAR LANES-HOLBURN

Bar venue situated in a bowling alley. Weird acoustics but a good gig none the less.

TUESDAY 19TH MARCH- THE STEP-BOUNDS GREEN

Lovely little local bar with some good acts.

SATURDAY 16TH MARCH-PANDORASDIARY LIVING ROOM CONCERT AT JIMMY’S HOUSE-WINCHMORE HILL

Another varied and great night. Sarah was great as was Yasmine. Jimmy was a welcoming host who filmed videos and took good photos. Night was made special by a mini grand piano and some classical singing.

THURSDAY 14TH MARCH-THE RANLEIGH-BOUNDS GREEN

Never again. Sorry but you did not make Sarah, Yasmine and I very welcome. It felt like your own private party.

MONDAY 11TH MARCH- TOGERSONIC STUDIO-CALEDONIAN ROAD

Got to play a song after one of Tigersonic’s great monthly network meetings.

WEDNESDAY 6TH MARCH- SHOWCASE AT FEARLESS FEMALES –HORATIO-HOLLOWAY

Yes I am the showcase tonight. Had some family and friends there which was nice. I was more nervous than usual but songs went well and I love Fearless Females.

Great host but unfortunately too much talking. Still I had a nice evening with Sascha.

First living room concert I have been to of Pandorasdiary’s so I had no idea what to expect but it was brilliant and now I can’t wait for the next one.

Lovely night at Patricks with fantastic harp playing from Keith and nice vocals from Dianna.
